CHRISTIANS AND THEM

There are roughly 4,200 religions in the world and as to which one is the true religion no one knows aside the Creator of the world. History tells me that my forefathers were not Christians. In their part of the world, they never had any idea about it. They had their own religion but as to whether they were satisfied with the norms and practices to the extent of living a peaceful life, only they can tell. Some people from the western part of the world wearing different skin color as if they have fallen into fire brought it. Aside stealing from my forefathers, they imposed it on them and through it, my forefathers were brutalized and abused. Through this same Christianity my forefathers lost their siblings and children to a place of no return - slavery. A new life befell them, it became part of everything they did as time evolved and through out our history we all have been Christians. Do I hate them and what they did to my people? Yes, I did hate them but no more....

ARE YOU AN INTELLIGENT INVESTOR?

In 1998, Long-Term Capital Management L.P., a hedge fund run by a battalion of mathematicians, computer scientists, and two Nobel Prize–winning economists, lost more than $2 billion in a matter of weeks on a huge bet that the bond market would return to “normal.” But the bond market kept right on becoming more and more abnormal—and LTCM had borrowed so much money that its collapse nearly capsized the global financial system. And back in the sp ring of 1720, Sir Isaac Newton owned shares in the South Sea Company, the hottest stock in England. Sensing that the market was getting out of hand, the great physicist muttered that he “could calculate the motions of the heavenly bodies, but not the madness of the people.” Newton dumped his South Sea shares, pocketing a 100% profit totaling £7,000. But just months later, swept up in the wild enthusiasm of the market, Newton jumped back in at a much higher price—and lost £20,000 (or more than $3 million in today’s money). Sir Isaac Newton wa...

Major Mahama - Kumawood

There is an ongoing campaign against Kumasi based filmmakers admonishing them NOT to make any film about Major Maxwell Adam Mahama. This campaign also has arguably, the best actress in Ghana, Nana Ama Mcbrown's voice in it when she was interviewd by TV3 at the funeral of the late military man. She said "I am pleading with every producer in Kumasi to respect him/herself not to make any movie out the sad event. Even if they are going to use it as a story, they shouldn't tell it as it is" One post on social media which startled me was "Herhh Kumawood! Don't even think about any Major Maxwell Mahama amanehunu 1,2,3 and nonsense biaa oo. Yoo! Shit ain't funny!" Does it mean Kumasi based filmmakers glorify themselves in tragedy? Or does it mean everything made from the industry is for fun and jokes? My question now is even if we should, can't #GhanaFilms ('Ghallywood', 'Kumawood', and others) make a movie with him(Major Mahama) ...

HISTORY OR MYTH - WHO SHOULD APOLOGIES ?

Good morning! Yesterday, wasn't a happy day for my dear Krobos due to that line in Sarkodie's rap re-echoing a 'statement' purported to have been uttered by Komfo Anokye, the Chief priest of the Ashanti Kingdom. Seriously to be cursed with promiscuity is the last thing anyone would expect. Such form of historical or tribal myth is something we all as one nation should avoid from growing into the minds of the next generation after us. With much  respect, I am glad a lot of people which even involves most of the tribes in the Akan ethnic group have been debunking that claims. Awesome on our part. However, those campaigning with the hashtag  # Sarkodieshouldapologize , are you all ok? You all need to take several steps back and sit your ass down! I really don't know your agenda. The same goes for some fans of certain artistes. Look at them! Whether Sarkodie (because he is a celebrity?) apologizes or not this won't change, although I hope he does. Why do I...

CHILDREN OF THE MOUNTAIN - A TOUCH OF CLASS

Image
A good movie is one that speaks for itself. The truth of the matter is, it makes it difficult in finding the right words to review it. It's an "insult" of me to even give a constructive critique of it.  Seriously I wish the movie was first premiered in Ghana before crossing our borders. Children of the Mountain, a title that makes so much sense and if critically reviewed will effortlessly fall into the category of all time best movies produced in Ghana. Firstly, one thing I can't turn my eyes from is the fact that the movie in so many ways laughed by destroying the unreasonable divsion (Ghallywood and Kumawood) in the film industry as it respected every single rule of cinema as well as going into our culture by adopting 3 of the main languages (Twi, Fante, Ewe) spoken in Ghana for the whole 1hr 39mins of the film's timeframe devoid of English. The story also makes use of names that represent our culture and what we stand for. The story, simple still pulle...

STORY/SCREENPLAY.

The height Ghana  Films  is still hoping to reach needs more hands on deck. One person can’t do everything even if all the needed resources were available to him or her. Rome as beautiful as it is was never built in a day. Hollywood took more than 40 years before it could realized its potential by following a systematic process employing everything it could not forgetting the ‘people’ Ghana as a developing country in the West of Africa has also come to live in a cinematic world  whereby the experience people expect to acquire from  films  are criticized if not met. Why? Because most of what we are being given lack the necessary elements that give life to a film. I think the problem lies with the rush we produce  films  pertaining to story/screenplay. This part of production needs a lot of dedicated time before production starts. The hard truth is, NO QUALITY MOVIE can have its pre-production, production and post-production completed in a month or...
